Why perform Umrah in Ramadan?

Ramadan is the most blessed month of the Islamic year, and performing Umrah within it carries immense reward — the Prophet ﷺ taught that an Umrah in Ramadan is equal to a Hajj in reward. Fasting in the holy cities, praying in Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi, and seeking Allah's mercy, forgiveness, peace and a place in Jannah among millions of fellow believers is a deeply moving, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It is also the busiest and most sought-after time of the year, so early planning is essential to secure hotels close to the Haram.

The three Ashras of Ramadan

Ramadan is divided into three ten-day periods, the Ashras, and many pilgrims choose their dates around them:

  • First Ashra (days 1–10) — Mercy (Rahmah): the days of Allah's mercy.
  • Second Ashra (days 11–20) — Forgiveness (Maghfirah): seeking forgiveness and turning back to Allah.
  • Third Ashra (days 21–30) — Refuge from the Fire: the most virtuous nights, including the last ten nights and Laylatul Qadr.

We offer packages aligned to each Ashra, as well as full-month and flexible 7, 10 and 14-night options.

The last ten nights & Laylatul Qadr

The last ten nights are the spiritual peak of Ramadan, when Muslims seek Laylatul Qadr — the Night of Decree, which the Qur'an describes as better than a thousand months — on the odd nights. Many pilgrims also observe i'tikaf (spiritual retreat) in the mosque during these nights. Demand for hotels beside Masjid al-Haram is at its absolute highest for the last ten nights, and they sell out many months in advance, so book as early as you can.

When is Ramadan 2026 & choosing your dates

Ramadan 2026 is expected to begin around the second half of February 2026 and run into mid-March (subject to the moon sighting), with the last ten nights falling in mid-March and Eid al-Fitr around 20 March 2026. You can choose to perform Umrah for the full month, the first ten nights, or the highly sought-after last ten nights — tell us your preference and we'll build the right itinerary.

Iftar, Suhoor & worship at the Haram

There is nothing like breaking your fast at iftar within sight of the Kaaba, or sharing suhoor before a day of worship. Nights in Ramadan come alive with Taraweeh, Tahajjud and Qiyam prayers and long recitations of the Qur'an. To stay strong while fasting, keep hydrated between iftar and suhoor, eat balanced meals, rest during the day and plan your tawaf and ziyarah for cooler parts of the day. Many of our hotels offer iftar and suhoor arrangements.

  • Umrah visa processing — including guidance on the Nusuk app and eVisa, or a tourist visa if you wish to explore more of Saudi Arabia
  • Hand-picked 3, 4 and 5-star hotels and accommodations — in Makkah within a few minutes' walk of Masjid al-Haram and in Madinah close to Masjid an-Nabawi, with Haram-view rooms available
  • Airport transfers and intercity transport, including the Haramain high-speed railway option
  • Guided ziyarah (ziyarat) of the holy sites with an experienced Umrah guide on selected packages
  • A choice of room occupancy — single, double, triple or quad — and full-month, first-10 or last-10-nights itineraries

Exact inclusions vary by package — check each one above for full details.

Ziyarah and the holy sites

In Makkah you can visit Masjid al-Haram, the Kaaba, Maqam Ibrahim, Safa and Marwah, Jabal al-Nour (the Cave of Hira), Jabal Thawr and Jannat al-Mualla. In Madinah, visits include the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi), Jannat al-Baqi, the Quba Mosque, Masjid al-Qiblatain and Mount Uhud. An Umrah guide accompanies selected packages to explain the significance of each site.

Ramadan Umrah packages from across the UK

We arrange Ramadan Umrah departures from airports across the UK — London Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick (LGW), Manchester (MAN), Birmingham (BHX), Glasgow (GLA), Edinburgh (EDI), Leeds Bradford (LBA), Newcastle (NCL) and Bristol (BRS) — and also serve pilgrims in Bradford, Leeds and beyond. Browse our London, Manchester and Birmingham packages, with group, family and ladies-only options on request.

Booking your Ramadan Umrah — book early & pay flexibly

Ramadan is the highest-demand period of the year, and the last ten nights in particular sell out far in advance, so prices are at a premium. We strongly recommend booking as early as possible — many months ahead for the last ten nights and Eid. To make it easier, we offer low deposits and flexible payment options — instalment and pay-monthly plans — with a clear cancellation policy explained upfront. UK residents who hold another passport can usually still obtain an Umrah visa, and under current Saudi rules women aged 18 and over may perform Umrah without a mahram, typically in an organised or ladies-only group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Umrah in Ramadan so rewarding?expand_more

The Prophet ﷺ said that an Umrah performed in Ramadan equals a Hajj in reward. Combined with fasting, Taraweeh prayers and worship in the holy cities, it is one of the most spiritually rewarding journeys in Islam — which is why it is the most sought-after time of the year.

When is Ramadan 2026?expand_more

Ramadan 2026 is expected to begin in the second half of February 2026 and run into mid-March (subject to the moon sighting), with the last ten nights in mid-March and Eid al-Fitr around 20 March 2026.

What are the three Ashras of Ramadan?expand_more

Ramadan is split into three ten-day Ashras: the first is the days of Mercy (Rahmah), the second is Forgiveness (Maghfirah), and the third is Refuge from the Fire — which includes the blessed last ten nights and Laylatul Qadr.

What are the last ten nights and Laylatul Qadr?expand_more

The last ten nights are the peak of Ramadan, when Muslims seek Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Decree) on the odd nights — a night the Qur'an describes as better than a thousand months. They are the most in-demand dates, so book early.

Can I observe i'tikaf during my Ramadan Umrah?expand_more

Yes — many pilgrims observe i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque) during the last ten nights. Staying in a hotel very close to the Haram makes this easier; let us know and we'll advise on suitable options.

Do your Ramadan packages include Iftar and Suhoor?expand_more

Many of our hotels provide iftar and suhoor arrangements, and some packages include meals. Tell us your preference and we will confirm the meal options for your chosen hotel.

Should I book the full month, the first ten nights, or the last ten nights?expand_more

All three are available. The first ten nights and full-month stays are calmer, while the last ten nights (Laylatul Qadr) are the most virtuous and the busiest. We can tailor any itinerary — 7, 10, 14 nights or the full month.

How much do Ramadan Umrah packages cost from the UK?expand_more

Ramadan is a premium, high-demand period, so prices are higher than off-peak months — especially for the last ten nights and hotels beside the Haram. See the from-prices on the packages above for current Ramadan rates.

How early should I book Ramadan Umrah?expand_more

As early as possible. Ramadan, and particularly the last ten nights and Eid, sell out many months in advance, so we recommend booking well ahead to secure your hotel near the Haram and the best fares.

What is included in a Ramadan Umrah package?expand_more

Return flights, Umrah visa processing, hotels in Makkah and Madinah, airport and intercity transfers (with a Haramain high-speed railway option), and guided ziyarah on selected packages, with single, double, triple or quad room options.

Which UK airports and airlines can I use for Ramadan Umrah?expand_more

We arrange departures from London (Heathrow and Gatwick), Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle and Bristol, on carriers such as Saudia, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad and Turkish Airlines.

Can a woman perform Umrah without a mahram in Ramadan?expand_more

Under current Saudi rules, women aged 18 and over may perform Umrah without a mahram, usually as part of an organised group. We also offer ladies-only group packages — just let us know.

Can I get an Umrah visa without a British passport?expand_more

In most cases yes — UK residents who hold another passport (including those on a BRP, work, student or spouse visa) can usually obtain a Saudi Umrah visa. We process the visa and advise on the documents required.

How can I stay strong while fasting during Umrah?expand_more

Keep hydrated between iftar and suhoor, eat balanced meals, rest during the day, and plan your tawaf and ziyarah for the cooler early mornings and evenings. Our team is on hand throughout your trip if you need support.

Are your Ramadan Umrah packages ATOL protected, and can I pay in instalments?expand_more

Yes — all our flight-inclusive Ramadan packages are ATOL 74904 protected (Times Travel Ltd), and we offer low deposits and flexible instalment / pay-monthly plans to help you spread the cost.
